The 12th November marked the opening of one of Londons favourite Vegan/vegetarian restaurants, Mildreds. Based on Lexington road, Soho, this well established eatery proposed to share more of their delicious dishes with us by branching out into Camden. The new branch opened the doors of 9 Jamestown street yesterday to a crowd of eager and hungry customers! A brilliant location being the heart of quirky vegan treats, raw goodness and pop up food stalls.
I was invited to a complimentary meal to try out the cuisine they had to offer and see if it compared to the hype of soho. And it sure did! It exceeded my expectations with the service being fantastic – constant refills of tap water and staff more than willing to help.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was buzzing however I didn’t get the same character come through as with the Soho store. The restaurant has a simplistic, modern yet classy design which makes it enjoyable to dine in at night. (I have yet to see what the vibes are like during the day!)
We were offered a specials menu as well as the standard menu which can be found in the other branch (take a look online at Mildreds). It would’ve been great to see more/new vegan based meals however the large majority of the dishes do have vegan alternatives and the menu does have an awful lot to offer that will surely tempt any tastebuds!(and that’s just me wanting to completely veganize them;)
For the complimentary meal I chose to go for the Polish burger. Now I’m not one for burgers but I was in a very beetroot-y mood and it sounded divine: beetroot, white bean and dill in a focaccia bun with iceburg lettuce, mayonnaise, pickled cabbage and gherkin/with vegan cheese. With a side of sweet potato fries, naturally. However being the awkward chicken I am, I had to have the bun and mayonnaise removed due to being yeast intolerant and just not liking Mayo! Now if a meal can be dissected in such a way and still taste scrummy you know you are onto a winner.
My friend went for the Stir fried Vegetables in shiitake, mirin, chilli, garlic and ginger with brown rice, tofu and toasted cashews. Her bowl was left clean. So it’s safe to say she enjoyed it along with stealing a few of my fries! (Seriously the sweet potato fries are a great shout.)
When it comes to the dessert menu, in any restaurant, you want to try a sample of all of the foods because they just sound too damn good! Being the indecisive pair we are we ended a lovely meal with the maraschino cherry truffles. And wow did we make the right choice! So rich and creamy with a soft sweet centre. Could’ve consumed many more of those chocolatey-sinfree-beauties! Matched with a soya hot chocolate it was the perfect night time treat.
Now if I haven’t convinced you enough to go try out Mildreds after all the mouth watering pics here’s another reason to go take a look.. They are offering 50% off meals till the end of the month with this voucher. See, it was definitely worth sticking through my food ramblings wasn’t it! Please let me know what your thoughts are on the new Mildreds, it will be interesting to see what you all think.
(Thought I’d share a few of my previous meals with you all..)
